 CHARM AND GLAMOUR FOR A HIGHLY SPECTACULAR TOURNAMENT
The International World of Polo is focussing all its attention on Italy. It's again Sardinia in the limelight with its dramatic Emerald Coast as backdrop.
The Julius Baer Polo Master Cup 2008 (12-15 hp) will take place on the wonderful "polo-pitch" of Bucchi Toltu , near Porto Cervo, from 6th to 13th July. The official opening of the Tournament will be on the eve's evening in the Porto Cervo's Piazzetta when the Teams will be presented their Polo shirts by the Sponsors.
Six polo teams ((Audi, Cala di Volpe, Julius Baer, Jaeger LeCoultre, Malo and Web Eyewear) captained by patrons from Italy (Luca D'Orazio and Simone Chiarella), the USA (Thomas J. Barrack jr), Switzerland (Piero Dillier), and Austria (Walter Scherb) will compete for the coveted trophy. Qualifying matches will be played over 7 days until the Finals on Sunday 13th. The first match will begin at sunset at 7 p.m. and the second will be played at night under the floodlights.
The high number of professionals from Argentina will guarantee a highly spectacular rhythm and an exceptional technical level to the games.
Polo successfully debuted in Sardinia in Spring 2006 and has since grown in interest and number of tournaments.
"Evening games" will be played for the first time ever on the Emerald Coast, thanks to powerful light towers which will make the games even more fascinating and involving for the spectators.
This tournament follows closely the successful Spring Gold Cup Tournament that was staged at the end of April, beginning of May under the direction of the same Organizers. The trophy was awarded to the Austrian team captain by Robert Kofler. Guests and Spectators are expected to come in great number to enjoy the matches from the comfortable booth stands of the Polo Village where they will be able to appreciate the excellent restaurant service by the Cala di Volpe staff. Host hotel will be again the Cala di Volpe, which well deserves its appellation of "buttonhole" of the Costa Smeralda Starwood hotels. The hotel will host the prizegiving ceremony during the closing gala dinner with music and fireworks. |
